    Company Information

The founder of Norsemeter, Mr. Oddvard Johnsen, is a former jet and passenger aircraft pilot. In 1984, he invented, and subsequently patented, Norsemeter's technical foundation: "Measuring friction force in real time", and "optimum braking and driving obtained by measuring friction force in real time". The patented invention finds the friction level by using force sensors that detect both vertical and horizontal forces. The friction coefficient is then used to control the brake application accordingly.

It was apparent that the principle of "measuring friction force in real time" had several other potential uses in addition to measuring runway friction and aircraft braking systems:
  • Measuring systems for development, control and maintenance of roads, airport runways and tires.
  • Active braking and drive control systems for automobiles, aeroplanes, railroads, and ships' propellers.
